Our Worship Services

We gather each Sunday morning for Sunday school and worship. Our worship services blend traditional and ancient worship practices with modern and experiental ways to approach God.

We typically follow the church calendar and use lectionary texts but we are always introducing creative components into our worship services. On Reformation Sunday, for example, each church member had the opportunity to nail their own "reforms" onto doors placed in our sanctuary. This gave us a cathartic moment to acknowledge those times when our church experience has been negative or manipulative. Other recent services have included African drummers, sanctuary windows silhouetted by "a great cloud of witnesses" (on All Saint's Day) and an entire service led by women and girls.

You can view a PDF file of one of our worship bulletins by clicking here. In addition, children are invited to pick up a "Children's Worship Packet" in the Narthex before the service to keep them engaged during the service.
|
| We also include children's sermons in most worship services. These are brief messages just for children, who are asked to come to the front of the sanctuary. These sermons typically include an object lesson or other method that helps children understand a spiritual truth. The picture shows a recent children's sermon where a professional potter came and helped the children understand the truth behind Isaiah 64:8. |

| You can also listen to a recent sermon. This sermon is from August 10, 2008. It is from a series of sermons on the Old Testament prophets. Titled "Bring it," this sermon is from Habakkuk and challenges us to take new risks in our adventure with God. | |
